Bring a Friend/Family Member,
Happy Birthday Jesus Offering

Dear Discovery Friends and Family,

We are continuing our series this weekend, Heroes, with a powerful teaching from the life of Nehemiah. He was an ordinary world changer who will inspire us to heroic faith. It is also our monthly Community Sunday so we will have communion during services and lunch after services.

Next Sunday, Dec 13th we are presenting a special illustrated message/sermon called Christmas Heroes that many of our students and kids will be part of. I want to encourage you to invite family and friends for this special Sunday!

And on Sunday Dec 20th we will be receiving our Happy Birthday Jesus offering. We ask that in this season of giving you pray about presenting a generous gift to Jesus beyond what you might normally give. The Bible teaches in 2 Corinthians 9:6 "Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously...God loves a cheerful giver."

I love you and it is such a privilege to serve as your pastor!

Advent Guide: Week One, Hope

This is a time of year often called advent, which means arrival. It is a time in which we build anticipation of the coming Lord, both in his birth ages in the past, and in his second coming in the future. Over the next few weeks we are going to provide a brief Advent Guide via this email to help you truly build anticipation of the coming Lord. It includes a prayer and passages of Scripture to look at. Here is week 1:

THIS WEEK centers on the longing of God’s people for the coming Messiah. They longed for the fulfillment of God’s promises, deliverance from exile, and the establishment of God’s Kingdom. How can you identify with the prophets of Israel? How do the prophecies of the coming Messiah give you hope? Which parts of them are inspiring or encouraging for you?

SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 9:1-7, Isaiah 52:7-10, Jeremiah 33:12-16, Isaiah 42:1-9, Micah 5:1-4, Isaiah 40:1-11.

PRAYER: Almighty God, we, like Israel in exile, long for your coming. Daily, we feel the searing pain of this broken world, but we know this isn’t the end. We watch for your light on the horizon. We listen for your voice on the wind. Give us hope when we grow weary. Grant us strength when we grow weak, for you are our hope now and forevermore. Amen.
